The refurbished building

The Attenborough Centre is an iconic building at the heart of the campus architecture designed in the 1960s by Sir Basil Spence. Refurbishment will restore an architecturally unique hallmark building as a cultural flagship.

The refurbished building will support multiple activities and will be capable of accommodating up to 800 users at the same time.

It will offer 33% more space than originally envisaged by opening out the area underneath the main auditorium.

The principal spaces are:

·         A flexible auditorium with various seating options and a probable maximum capacity of 350

·         Exhibition spaces

·         Four different-sized studios and teaching spaces.

The Attenborough Centre will provide access in line with requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).

The project brief incorporates conservation objectives in line with the University's environmental strategy.
