I am interested in how non-human species perceive and understand human behaviour. My current project looks at how the domestic horse (Equus caballus) recognises human emotional signals, including facial expressions and nonverbal vocalisations.

My previous research has investigated similar abilities in free-ranging long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis), adapting techniques developed at the University of Sussex, thus providing the basis for interesting comparisons between domestic and wild species' abilities to recognise human signals.
