Student perspectives

Peter Sahota, PhD in Philosophy

'I read Physics and Philosophy at Balliol College, Oxford, as an undergraduate, and since then I have been working in the field of insurance. After thinking over options for doing academic research in philosophy for some years, I started part-time postgraduate study at Sussex in 2008. I joined the Philosophy Department at Sussex as I wanted to work under the supervision of Professor Jonardon Ganeri, and also as it's a strong research department. My interests lie in epistemology, philosophy of language and philosophy of mind. In my research here, I will be studying works of some of the thinkers of the Indian Nyâya school of philosophy. I hope to explore how causal and explanatory models can be used in providing accounts of empirical features of first-person states and attitudes.'
