Sussex Centre for Migration Research


Nabeela Ahmed's regional focus is South Asia, and main interests lie at the intersection of migration and development, in particular poverty alleviation; social protection; state-citizen relations and the impact of migration policy. She has worked with a number of NGOs in South Asia including BRAC in Bangladesh and has previously worked for the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) on EU-funded migration projects and as a consultant for IOM. She holds an MA in International Relations from Boston University, specialising in international migration, and a BA from the University of Cambridge.  Nabeela is a recipient of the Royal Geographical Society's Slawson Award 2013. 

In 2016, Nabeela also completed work on a research project under the global initiative 'Making All Voices Count' (MAVC), with IDS - one of the lead organisations. MAVC is funded by multiple donors including DfID and USAID, and supports global innovation and research on enabling citizen engagement and government responsiveness. She has co-written working papers on the topic of social and community-led accountability initiatives in South Asia, with a focus on India.
