Human Rights

Human rights at Sussex goes beyond a narrow legalistic approach and explores how human rights are socially embedded in wider processes of poverty, violence, identity, globalisation and the emergence of global forms of governance. Our Human Rights degrees reflect this critical perspective.

Conflict, Security and Development

The challenges posed by civil wars, genocides, famines and other humanitarian crises show that security and development are closely linked today. Successful development and conflict resolution require the provision of security. Conversely, lack of development can breed insecurity and violence.  This MA analyses the complex relationships that lie at the heart of this development-security nexus in the global south

International Criminal Law

This LLM was the first of its kind in the UK, specialising in the rapidly developing area of international criminal law and practice. It remains one of the most highly respected degrees of its kind and is the leading Masters-level degree in the UK combining the study of international criminal law with comparative criminal justice. This provides you with unique insights into both international and national systems of criminal justice.
