Supporting staff through the proposal for change

We want to ensure that staff affected by the Proposal for Change are properly supported through the process.   The University has four schemes in place to support staff through change.

Information on first scheme (the MRS) was sent to affected staff in January, on the additional schemes on 25 March 2010, and updated information on the extension to deadlines on 27 April 2010.  On 27 May 2010, the deadline for the ERVS was further extended.  Posts available under the DTS were added to the DTS pages on 27 May 2010.

Schemes to support staff through change

A number of specific measures have been put in place to support staff were approved by Council on 26 March 2010. These pages set out:

Updated information - being sent to at risk staff 27 May 2010

The deadline for receipt of ER/VS applications is being further extended until 5.00 pm on Wednesday 9 June 2010. This is to enable the provisional selection process to be completed and for those provisionally selected still to have time to apply for ER/VS if they so choose.

Updated information sent to staff - 27 April 2010

Consultation with the three campus trades unions has continued since 26 March on further mitigation measures as it implements the Proposal for Change. The University has made a number of changes to the schemes so that:

  • The deadline for the ERVS scheme has been extended to 2 June 2010. This means that staff provisionally selected for redundancy will still be able to make applications for the scheme, once those provisional selections have been made.
  • The deadline for the DTS, which non-affected staff can apply for, has been extended to 19 May 2010.  This should give staff additional time to consider making applications for the scheme and thereby open up additional opportunities for at risk staff.
  • The pay protection policy has been extended so that it covers people moving to lower graded posts freed up by the DTS.  The policy is already applicable to staff redeployed under the Managed Redeployment Scheme.

A letter setting out these changes has been sent to all affected staff on 27 April

An email giving the updated deadline for the DTS is being sent to all staff on Thursday 29 April.

Information sent to staff - 25 March 2010

The information on all these schemes (in addition to the MRS which was published earlier in the year) were added here on Friday 26 March 2010, having been sent to affected staff.

An email providing links to the information and application form for the DTS was sent to all staff on 31 March 2010, since that scheme is open to staff not affected by the proposal.

Contacts for staff

Affected staff may also speak confidentially to their Personnel Officer, the Staff Welfare Officer or Occupational Health in terms of welfare support.
