Funding your studies

Applicants for MA courses and PhD research in Gender are eligible for a variety of scholarships. Check the postgraduate prospectus for the most up-to-date information on available awards. Potential PhD students can also ask in their registering departments about Graduate Teaching Assistantships which may provide them with a partial or full fee waiver.

As well as the scholarships offered by the university, there are other scholarships and funders, and general funding advice, at the following pages:

The British Council provides a small number of grants, and also has links to a number of other funding bodies at: British Council Learning

As well as the scholarships offered by the university, there are numerous small organisations offering funding for postgraduates, although these awards rarely exceed £500.

Lists can be found in The Charities DigestThe Grants RegisterThe Educational Grants Directory and The Directory of Grant-Making Trusts. Home students can pick up copies of these publications from their careers services and public libraries; international students may be able to access them in a public library, or may need to order them online.

Finally, check for charities and councils in your area. They may have a small award you could apply for.
