The School of English provides a supportive and stimulating environment for the research work of postgraduate students and staff.

Social space

The wide ranging scope of seminars, performances, workshops and other activities hosted by our Research Centres and seminar series contributes to a lively and engaging research culture which showcases new research across several fields of enquiry. Whether a termly weekly series or a series of events, there is always something new to discover. You can keep up to date with all the events run by the different centres and seminar series via the School events calendar.

Our Research Centres provide a dedicated space for a particular and focussed enquiry such as Early Modern Studies or Visual Fields which allows for a specific attention.

The School of English offers several dedicated study spaces for research students, the Trask Library and a bookable meeting room. We also have a comfortable social space for staff and students to gather and socialise, which equiped for projections and for holding seminars or colloquia, as well as for meeting informally over coffee. Most areas have WiFi on the University IT network available, and comfortable seating as well as tables for study. English doctoral researchers also have access to the Research Hive in the Library, a dedicated space for research students and staff to study and collaborate.
