The Department of Education at the University of Sussex coordinates the south east region of Researchers in Residence, funded by the UK Research Council and Wellcome Trust. Researchers in Residence facilitates a mutually beneficial relationship between researchers and secondary school students by placing researchers (PhD and post doctoral) in secondary schools across the UK. This is achieved through the placement of researchers in schools throughout the UK with funding from the Research Councils UK and the Wellcome Trust. The forming of connections between researchers and school students benefits everyone - school students are given the opportunity to engage with contemporary research and researchers aiding increased motivation and aspirations and stimulating interest in current research, while researchers have the opportunity to develop valuable skills like communication and team working.
