How do I use this site?

This website lists details of all the undergraduate vacancies available at Sussex for entry this September. The list of vacancies are the same for both Clearing and Adjustment.

You need to decide what your fee status is and then simply click on the relevant list of vacancies (for UK/EU and Islands applicants or for overseas). These lists will then show you the subject areas with vacancies and, from there, the specific degree courses with vacancies.

Why are there different vacancy lists for Overseas applicants and those from the UK/EU?

The University is set strict targets by the UK Government on the number of UK/EU students that it can admit (and risks being fined if it exceeds this quota). No such restrictions exist for students coming from outside the EU and consequently we may have vacancies for Non-EU students in courses where we have reached our UK/EU quota.

How do I make an application?

If you are from the UK, elsewhere in the EU or the Channel Islands/Isle of Man, please telephone the Vacancies Hotline on 01273 678416 (or +44 1273 678416 from abroad) as this will be the quickest and easiest way to apply for vacancies in Clearing or Adjustment.

Before calling our Vacancies Hotline, we recommend that you check our Clearing vacancy listings on these pages as they show not only which course still have places, but what qualifications and grades are required.

Those from outside the EU are also welcome to call this vacancies hotline, but we realise that time differences and the cost of calling may make this difficult. You will therefore find an 'Apply' button next to each available degree course on the Overseas Vacancies List. Overseas applicants will therefore be able to complete and submit an online application. However, please do not use this form if you have already telephoned us to make an application and please do not fill it in more than once.

What happens after I submit my application?

If you call our Vacancies Hotline, you will normally be able to get a decision there and then on whether we can offer you a place at Sussex. If we can make you a verbal offer, we will also send you an email with details of what to do next.

Occasionally, we may not be able to give you an immediate decision on the phone, but we will follow up quickly and email a decision to you, so keep checking your email account.

For international applicants applying via our online Clearing application, we will email our decision as soon as possible. Again, please keep checking your email.

If we are able to offer you a place (and you are in Clearing), we will ask you to go onto UCAS Track to refer your application to Sussex via online Clearing. If we still have vacancies at that time we would then be able to confirm your place. However please do not refer yourself to Sussex via online Clearing until we have indicated that we can offer you a place. Please note that on A-level publication day it is not possible to refer yourself until 5pm.

If you are in Adjustment, and we are able to offer you a place, we will email you asking you to confirm (by reply) that you wish to accept our offer. We will then arrange with UCAS for your firm choice to be switched to Sussex.

If you are unclear whether you are 'Clearing' or 'Adjustment', please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions.
