Choose a designer to work with

Creative work is achieved best as a partnership, rather than as a set of items to be delivered. Find out how best to work with creative suppliers and learn about the skills they bring to Sussex.

Before you commission creative work

Find out what to do first.

  • How to get started

The first thing you need to do is chat to the Digital and Creative Media team, who can help you decide the best creative and channel mix to fit your plan. The best way to do that is to fill in our new creative project briefing form. This will come through to the Digital and Creative Media team.

You can get the best help from the Digital and Creative Media team by sharing information about the project early on. The whole team will then be better able to support the project, for example, by helping you publish content or get branding approval.

Contact us if you have any questions about briefing creative work or deciding whether you need to write a brief: dcm@sussex.ac.uk

  • Marketing plans and planned projects

If you’re based in a School at Sussex, you’ll need to make sure that your planned materials fit into the Schools marketing plan. Check in with your Marketing Manager before commissioning creative work.

If you are in Brighton and Sussex Medical School, Institute of Development Studies, Sussex Estates and Facilities or Sussex Innovation Centre, in the first instance you should contact your marketing/communications team.

Our creative suppliers roster

The following creative partners are trusted to deliver on-brand creative that fulfils the required brief and resonates with our audiences. Explore the ‘about’ sections to learn about their work and skills they bring to Sussex.

  • About Door 22 Creative

A small creative team, we are a remote-model agency. We bring in other specialists when required such as Plain English proofreaders, copywriters and editors.

As a team we always happy help in the briefing (or even pre-briefing) process and seem to relish a slightly awkward project that needs a bit of a different approach, whether that’s a tight deadline or an innovative solution. We are used to discovering the missing pieces and joining the dots so don’t feel as though a brief needs to be a beautifully finalised manuscript.

We love to help develop a campaign idea or a new brand initiative. We can be well behaved and bring a chunky brochure to life faithfully on-brand but we also like to be bold and cheeky if given half the chance. Print or campaign style projects are our main bag as well as ones requiring commissioning and bringing in photography, illustration and data visualisation.

I am a freelance design lead with over 15 years’ experience, both agency-side and in-house. I have worked for big and small clients, and I am used to fast-paced environments. I look after projects from the initial brief to delivery. I can help define and develop design direction for a campaign and implement it (or oversee its implementation) across all assets.

I have a lot of experience in visual branding (print and digital) including full company re-brands, new campaigns, and improvements to the existing brand guidelines. I can take on cross-platform campaign-style projects, as well as detail-focused ones. My side-passions are lettering and illustration, which often come in useful on larger projects. I also work as a UX/UI consultant (currently designing a product for a finance company) and would love to work on your website.
