Biography

I obtained a PhD in Economics and Management in 2007 from Universite Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne, and the Sant'Anna School, Pisa, Italy. I then moved to the Max Planck Institute of Economics in Jena, Germany, for post-doctoral research. I have been a research fellow at SPRU since October 2010 (Senior Research Fellow as from October 2011). I am also External Associate Professor at Aalborg University (Denmark, starting March 2012) and Associate Fellow at the RATIO Institute, Stockholm.

I have published 30 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, such as Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization (2), Research Policy, Industrial and Corporate Change (4), Small Business Economics (2), Regional Studies, and Journal of Evolutionary Economics (2). I have also published a book on the topic of firm growth. My research interests are mainly focused on firm performance, business strategy, and industrial dynamics, although I have also published on subjects such as happiness economics, environmental motivation of consumers, regional innovation dynamics, and the diversity of consumer products. In 2010 I won the 'Best Junior paper' prize at the Schumpeter society conference in Aalborg, Denmark, for work on the age distribution of firms. I was also nominated for the 'best conference paper prize' at the 2008 DRUID summer conference, Copenhagen.

I was keynote speaker on 'Understanding firm growth' at the Ratio Institute, Stockholm, August 2010. I am guest editor of a special issue of Industrial and Corporate Change on 'High-growth firms' alongside Sven-Olov Daunfeldt, Werner Holzl and Dan Johansson. I have also done extensive referee reviewing for journals such as Review of Economics and Statistics, Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Journal of Business Venturing (3), Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control (2), Journal of Economic Geography, Research Policy (10) and Industrial and Corporate Change (10).
