Lucky Falmer magazine competition winner announced

Lucy Hermann (EAM 1995), the winner of a Falmer magazine competition to win a VIP weekend in Brighton.

A VIP weekend for two in Brighton beckons for the lucky winner of a competition held in the latest edition of Falmer, the University of Sussex magazine.

American Studies alumna Lucy Hermann (EAM 1995), who was selected at random after registering her details through SussexSphere, has won a two-night stay for two at the four-star Jury’s Inn Waterfront hotel in Brighton.

She and her family will be attending the University’s first ever Community Open Day the following day, when campus opens its doors to local residents with a family-friendly showcase of events and activities.

Two runners up, Jacqueline Shead (ENGAM 1970) and Laura Noakes (Geography 2009), have each won a Sussex goody bag.

Lucy said: “I never win anything, so hearing that I had won the competition was a pleasant surprise! I have so many fond memories of campus; I actually returned to work in the Students' Union, but that was 15 years ago and I haven't been back since.”

Having lived in East Slope from 1995-6, I must admit I was surprised to hear that it was only now being demolished, and feel inspired to dig out some photos to submit to the fabulous alumni scrapbook!”

SussexSphere is the University’s secure and exclusive online portal for former students. By registering, alumni can update their details and gain access to a range of benefits, including free access to JSTOR’s journal library and the chance to save money by getting an NUS Extra card.

Issue 54 of Falmer magazine is out now, and features interviews with notable alumni, research features, memories and more.

A digital edition is available here, and an extended, interactive online version is accessible on Falmer Extra.
