Research themes
Through the development of a series of research themes, we will align our intellectual power so that cross-sections of staff - from the arts, humanities, social sciences and sciences - can work in interdisciplinary teams on major issues of the day. Under the title Solutions through research, these themes will provide a forum to foster collaborative working and allow individual academic staff to play a role in tackling complex research challenges which, working alone, they would be unable to address.
Environment and health:
enhancing lifelong health and well-being by promoting illness prevention and improving the management of disease

Culture and heritage:
constructing identity and culture through notions of memory and place
Mind and brain:
unravelling the mind, brain and consciousness: from cell to self and personal identity
Citizenship and democratisation:
freedom, violence and reconciling conflict in an insecure world
Global transformations:
rethinking social adaptation in the context of changing environment
