Classes from Monday 27 January - Friday 1 May 2020

All group exercise classes are free to student gold and silver members. Price per class for bronze student members is £4.40.

Monday

Yoga: 8am-8.45am

Instructor: Gratia

Venue: Dance Studio - Sport Centre 

Based on flowing sequences and precise alignment, linked to full rhythmic breathing that will open up both body and mind. This class will improve your strength, stamina and flexibility.

Bodyweight Circuits: 12 noon-1pm

Instructor: Ben Walker

Venue: Dance Studio - Sport Centre 

This class focuses on 'nutritious' movement of your body weight. Primarily drawing on gymnastics conditioning, animal flow and play-based methods we will help to strengthen and condition your body, improve mobility and agility and teach you new skills. All levels are welcome regardless of any previous experience.

Bounce is a brand new high energy, fun and effective class for  everyone. The class has a commercial Pop/R&B root and the choreography is fun and easy to follow, combining the latest hip-hop and chart hits. Dance styles include Hip-Hop, Waacking, House and Vogue.

US Girls Can Women's Only: 3.30pm-4.30pm

Instructor: Gemma Morris

Venue: Sport Centre Fitness Room

A women-only session for all experience levels. Sessions will be led by expert female instructors and structured around the needs of the group, with a focus on circuits training and/or spin workouts. Classes may include:

  • Kettlebells
  • Body weight
  • Full body workout
  • Spin workout using our indoor cycling bikes

This is a much more movement based/demanding class for those that enjoy the core elements of Pilates but want a greater workout.

This class is suitable for all fitness levels. You start the class with a short step routine designed to warm up the muscles you will be using during the class. The rest of the session is split into 4x4 strength exercises using bodyweight and dumbells.  You will work the lower body, upper body, whole body and core. The method of training creates a high intensity, high energy, high calorie burn.

A one hour session that focuses on all over body workout. This class is aimed to get you stronger, leaner, help you burn more calories and is guaranteed to leave you feeling like you have had a good session! The class is aimed at all levels from the beginner through to the advanced trainer.

Flowetic is a beautiful class combining dance, toning and strengthening exercises alongside stretching and relaxation. Fitness and well-being for the body and mind.

A coaching focused session covering the key exercises in a strength training workout. The session will cover warm up, take you through a circuit of 5 of the main strength movements, Squat, Deadlift, Row, Push Up and Plank.

A class centred on strength training to produce a high intensity class that trains both the muscular and cardiovascular system to create a smart training solution. The class uses a rotation system, so the user can record their progress. The class uses barbells, dumbbells, ropes, kettlebells and medicine balls and requires some experience of free weight training. The class is a great calorie burner, great fun and is a challenging workout.

In good weather, this class may be moved outside to our Outdoor Fitness Area. Please check the weather and bring appropriate clothing and sun protection cream if necessary.

Strong by Zumba: 5.05pm-5.50pm

Venue: Hall Two - Sport Centre

Strong by Zumba is the ultimate cardio and total body workout, based around the extremely popular training videos by Shaun T.

The session is high intensity and fast paced, using intervals to burn energy and increase fitness. Using jumps, sprints, strength and core exercises this class should be top of your list if intensity is your thing.

Aerial Yoga: 5.15pm-6.15pm

Move between yoga postures using a low-hanging wide aerial silk, hung like a hammock, to give flowing movements that relax and stretch the body.

Long sleeves and long trousers recommended wear, but not essential. Please wear clothing with no zips or buckles, and remove watches and jewellery prior to each class.

This class teaches Vayu Aerial Yoga, a specific method with particular postures and sequences. Participants need to be familiar and comfortable with the basic material of a Vayu Aerial Yoga class, including the sleepy body sequence, cat backs and the basic expression of warriors and down dog - taught in the Aerial Yoga beginners drop-in classes.

Suitable for all levels: beginners are welcome. This is a general ballet class that incorporates point work at the end of each session.

Group exercise class notes

  • If you have booked your place online then you will still need to come to reception to pick up your admission ticket or pay.
  • If you have booked your place online and fail to attend, pay or pick up your ticket then arrears will show on your account. You will be unable to make any other bookings until these arrears have been paid.
  • Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and if you have any injuries or problems then discuss these with the instructor before the class.
  • Some of our classes are outdoors, please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sun protection cream if necessary.
  • Please do not arrive late for any of the classes. Entry will be denied if you are more than 10 minutes late.
  • We ensure that all teachers are fully qualified and experienced. However, all participants take part in any activity at their own risk.

Waiting Lists

If a class is fully booked you have the option of going on the waiting list; just ask at either the Sport Centre or Falmer Sports Complex reception. Sussexsport will attempt to contact you if a place becomes available. Please note that being on a waiting list does not guarantee you a place, but is to note your interest in case a place becomes available.
