What does UNIversal Gym Membership offer?

  • BUCS UNIversal gym membership gives you free entry to more than 90 facilities at 75 university gyms nationwide.

What are the benefits of signing up to the UNIversal Gym Memberships?

You can now stay active when you're travelling around the UK or visiting other participating universities for work at no extra cost.

What will happen on my first visit to a participating UNIversal Gym?

  • You'll need to complete a quick health questionnaire at the 'tourist' gym when you make your first visit. Upon satisfactory completion of the form, you'll be able to start using the new facility for no charge.

Are there any restrictions?

  • Only staff and students with Sussexsport annual Gold membership can use the gyms at participating universities between 1 September and 31 August each year. When using partner university facilities, you will be referred to as a ‘tourist’ member.
  • Participating universities will outline the exact facilities that tourist members can access, including any restrictions that may be in place. For example, you may not be able to use another university facility that is in close proximity to your full-time place of work.
  • If you want to use the offer, you'll need to pick up a UNIversal Gym Membership card. These can be collected from Sussexsport reception desks at the Sport Centre or Falmer Sports Complex.
  • A UNIversal Gym Membership card needs to be shown alongside a valid University of Sussex staff photo ID card to gain access to any participating university gyms. Both cards must be shown together at every visit for the membership to be valid.
