Frequently asked questions

  1. Where do the activities take place? - All activities will take place at the University of Sussex Sport Centre or Falmer Sports Complex, both based on the University of Sussex campus, at Falmer. The best postcode to use for satnav purposes is BN1 9RB for the Sport Centre and BN1 9PL for Falmer Sports Complex.
  2. Who organises the activities? - All activities are organised by the University of Sussex sports department, Sussexsport, and the activity sessions are run by high level coaches from local clubs and University teams.
  3. How do I book activities? - Activities can be booked using our online shop or by phoning (01273) 678228 or (01273) 877687. The registration form can be returned via email, via the post or by hand. Payment must be made in full at the time of booking.
  4. Do you take childcare vouchers? - Ofsted does not cover sports holiday activities for children within a University setting, so unfortunately we do not.
  5. Will I be sent confirmation details for activities booked? - Full confirmation details will be sent in advance of each activity taking place. This is usually sent out via email at least 10 days before the activity commences and will include details on what to wear, packed lunches/snacks, equipment to bring, timings and the location of facilities.
  6. My child will be attending different activities across a day. How are the children taken between sessions and is it possible for lunch periods to be covered by staff? - If activities take place in the same building/at the same site, then time will be allocated for lunch by coaching staff and the coaches will walk them to the next sessions. If activities are across our sports sites, then parents/carers will need to collect and deliver their children. There is no provision for lunch time cover if there are gaps between sessions.
  7. What is the policy on cancellations? - If you cancel a booking before the course deadline then a full refund is applicable. Cancellations due to illness/injury after this date will usually result in a credit for future activities. Cancellations for any other reason will usually not result in a refund.
  8. My child is slightly too old or too young for an activity. Can they still join in? - This is usually a discretionary decision and varies on the activity, the exact age of the children and the age of the other children booked on the course/activity. This issue should be discussed with Luke Terrill, Deputy Head of Sport (Competitions and Participation), via (01273) 877687 or l.o.terrill@sussex.ac.uk.
  9. Are parents able to stay and watch activities? - This is absolutely fine but it is often on a course by course basis. Parents are encouraged to view from seating areas or designated viewing areas. Tea, coffee and vending machines are available and the campus has many other cafes and restaurants within walking distance.
  10. What is the Active Parent Offer? - The Active Parent offer allows parents to play tennis, squash or use the gym free of charge (subject to availability), whilst their child is involved in the children’s activity programme. Parents will be expected to pay for a parking permit when attending an active parent offer activity.
  11. Do you have a Child Protection policy? - Yes, you can read our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy [PDF 371.52KB] online.
