Student feedback has been important in influencing the modules of the MA in Social Work and, as a consequence, learning opportunities have not only been developed for students but also with their help.
A large proportion of the timetabled teaching is spent in structured seminar discussion to enable the sharing and refining of individual experiences. It also allows for the collective critique of ideas with other students encountered through reading. Student independence is sustained and developed through individually chosen projects, focusing on personal professional interests for which tutorial support is provided. Assessment is based on coursework assignments, rather than examinations.
The result is that students acquire greater confidence, enhanced capabilities and ways of thinking, and employ new knowledge to interrogate major professional concerns.
