Practice learning is an important part of your initial social work qualification programme and the Department of Health requirements are that all students must spend at least 200 days gaining experience and learning in practice settings
In order to meet requirements for qualification, each student will need to have experience:
- in at least two practice settings
- of statutory social work tasks including legal intervention
- of providing services to at least two service user groups.
We have excellent links with our placement providers who offer an exciting and varied range of practice learning opportunities in both the statutory and non-statutory sectors. Support is provided while on placement by experienced practitioners and also by University tutors. Although placements available may vary from one year to another, those generally on offer to our students include:
Children and family placements:
duty teams, long-term teams, family centres, children's hospitals, fostering and adoption centres, child protection services, Connexions, Sure Start, child and adolescent mental health, children's disability teams
Adult/community care placements:
older people's assessment teams, hospital-based teams, Independent Living Teams, day centres, mental health teams, disability teams, homelessness and addiction services, hospice work
