Approved designers list
For most publications you will need to employ a professional graphic designer, from our approved designers list. All the designers on the list are confident working with the Sussex visual identity, and will help you make sure your publication looks great and is on brand.
It is a University requirement that all graphic design is bought only from designers on the approved list. The list gives details of the range of services each designer offers and the kinds of publications they can take on. If you have a fixed budget, most are willing to quote a total amount for your job, rather than charging an hourly rate. If you need further advice about which designers would be appropriate for your project, please contact the Publications and Branding Team, publications@sussex.ac.uk.
The designers on the list have clearly demonstrated that they understand the Sussex visual identity, recognise the importance of strong and consistent branding, and are capable of producing publications of a consistently high standard that represent value for money. Using approved designers means that:
- all work commissioned meets the University's brand requirements and is of a consistent quality;
- design commissions are managed efficiently as part of a co-ordinated approach to the production of marketing and recruitment materials.
If you are concerned that using a professional designer will be expensive, especially compared to doing it yourself using a desktop publishing programme, you might be pleasantly surprised. Once staff time cost is factored in, using a designer is normally quicker, cheaper and less hassle – and the results will look better as well. Please do not underestimate the importance of well-designed, properly branded materials that form part of a planned communications strategy. A badly designed, off-brand communication will not help you achieve your communications goals – and can even do lasting damage to the reputation of both your school/unit and the University as a whole.
