Programme Director: Dr. Helga Dittmar.
The MSc in Applied Social Psychology offers advanced study in social and applied psychology, taught by one of the UK 's leading research groups in this area. Our expertise is particularly strong in the areas of consumer beliefs and behaviour, intergroup relations and crowd dynamics, and issues related to health and illness.
The programme is especially suitable for those wishing to undertake postgraduate research in these areas of psychology or for those interested in a wide variety of careers that involve research- or policy-related work in applied contexts (e.g., consumer research/advertising, health, conflict resolution).
It provides a theoretical grounding in important perspectives within this field, along with the methodological techniques you need when you want to apply social psychology to real-world issues in subsequent research work:
- Promotes an extensive knowledge of the real-world applicability and application of social psychological theory
- Helps students to develop advanced skills in research methodology
- Provide experience of conducting high-quality research of a standard appropriate for publication in prestigious academic journals
- Develops further students' communication and presentation skills, as well as the ability to use relevant computer software.
