Biography

Liljana has been awarded a full Chancellor’s International Research Scholarship by the University of Sussex for doctoral research within the Department of Politics. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University, Macedonia with a specialization in Criminal Law. She received a scholarship for her MA studies in Contemporary European Studies at the University of Bath. She also completed a Master’s Degree by Research in Law at Queen Mary University of London.

Her research focuses on the influence of the European Union's enlargement conditionality on the control of corruption in Central and Eastern Europe. For her present research, Liljana has also been awarded a Global Supplementary Grant and a Civil Society Scholar Award by the Open Society Foundations, as well as an International Visegrad Fund Scholarship to join Charles University in Prague as a visiting researcher.

Liljana has worked in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. She worked as a project researcher for Transparency International in Macedonia on a regional project for measuring anti-corruption progress in candidate countries during the EU accession process. Prior to this, she worked in a law firm and has also been involved in the process of harmonization and implementation of national laws and policies with European legislation. 

Recently, Liljana has organized the Inaugural Sussex Graduate Conference on Corruption and Anticorruption, which was supported by the Political Studies Association and the Sussex Centre for the Study of Corruption, where she also presented a paper.
