About us

Emergent Photonics

The newly formed Emergent Photonics (EPic) laboratory at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Sussex is at the forefront of nonlinear optical physics and terahertz photonics. As a part of the larger Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics group in the department, EPic has grown to consist of twelve members as well as a consistent intake of undergraduate physicists each year. The lab was established by Professor Marco Peccianti and Dr Alessia Pasquazi and host in 2013 their research teams.

Infrastructure

At EPic we have a wide range of ultrafast sources for a variety of applications, from optical frequency combs providing a stable reference for microcomb applications to a millijoule class regenerative amplifier for exploring the limits of nonlinear interactions.
