Prestigious MacQuitty Prize for student Charles Morris
MMaths student Mr Charles Morris has been awarded the prestigious MacQuitty prize, the University's highest prize in science awarded annually for outstanding performance in Mathematics, Biology, Psychology, Technology and Science. Charles, a gifted student with keen interest in Pure Mathematics, will join the Analysis and PDEs group in Mathematics in September 2013 to begin his PhD with Dr Ali Taheri.
Hirschfeld Scholarship for student Victor Summers
MMath student Mr Victor Summers is the first recepient of the Hirschfeld Scholarship for a PhD in Mathematics. Victor who is also a winner of the Hirschfeld prize 2013 and a devoted member of the Maths and Physics MAPS society, will begin his research in September 2013 on the topic on: "Gromov's h-principle, Convex integration and the construction of very singular minimizers in the mult-dimensional Calculus of Variations" under the supervision of Dr Ali Taheri.
JSPS Fellowship for research fellow Dr Chandrasekhar Venkataraman

Research Fellow Dr Chandrasekhar Venkataraman has been awarded a Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) fellowship that funds a 3 month research visit to Japan this summer. He will be visiting Osaka and Chubu University.
Medal in table tennis for student Sally Hughes

Maths student Sally Hughes, captain of the Sussex women’s table tennis team, won two medals at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) championships. Sally won bronze medals in both the mixed doubles and women’s doubles.
