Secure Electronic Delivery
Using the SED (Secure Electronic Delivery) Service
To view SED documents, you will need to install the FileOpen plugin for Adobe Reader. If you are using a PC in any of the ITS PC clusters, this should already be installed. Alternatively, the plugin can be downloaded from http://plugin.fileopen.com. Please check that you can open the British Library's Test Document before requesting electronic delivery.
Requesting Secure Electronic Delivery for a journal article, conference paper or chapter from a book:
- Login to the Article Request form using your IT Services username and password.
- Complete the form, providing the full bibliographic details of the item.
- Read and agree the terms of the copyright declaration by ticking the check box. This electronic signature now replaces the need for signing a paper copy of the copyright declaration.
- Submit your request.
- Either click on 'Make another request' or Logout from the main menu option.
A link to the digitised file will be sent to your Sussex Email account. The link will only remain active for 14 days from the date the email is sent and the file can only be accessed once. Please make sure you can access the file and print out at the same time. SED files should not be stored or forwarded to others.
If you experience problems accessing your electronic document, please contact Interlibrary Request staff.
Troubleshooting
Some MAC users are reporting a problem opening SED documents. This seems to depend on the version of OSX installed, the browser used or the version of Adobe Reader installed. There are known issues opening FileOpen documents on Firefox version 19 and on Adobe Reader 11 (revert, if possible to Adobe Reader 10). Please see the British Library FileOpen guidance for Mac users for further information.
