Sussex Centre for Language Studies

Undergraduate study

Sussex is an international university with close links to continental Europe and the rest of the world. Indeed, our location on the south coast of England means that we are the British university closest to our European cousins and colleagues.

You will study languages to a high level of proficiency as an integral part of cultural, social and political practices and customs, exploring aspects of the history and culture of continental Europe and of related countries around the world. You will do so alongside students from a wide range of different countries, under the tutelage of international teaching staff, all of whom are native or bilingual speakers of the language they teach. Your intercultural awareness and understanding, so prized by the market place, will be enhanced informally by frequent contact with your tutors and overseas colleagues.
