Pre-sessional English

If English is not your first language, you may need to improve your skills on a pre-sessional language course before starting your degree at Sussex. Pre-sessional courses are specialist courses to prepare international and overseas students for study in UK Higher Education.

There are several different lengths of pre-sessional course and which course is the right one for you will depend on your incoming language level, and the level you need to achieve for your chosen degree. The table below shows the length of pre-sessional study you need, based on the gap between your current IELTS level and the English language requirement for your course at Sussex.

* An integrated CAS for both the Pre-sessional course and Masters degree is available only for the 5 and 10 week Pre-sessional, and only for those with degree offers of IELTS 6.0 or 6.5. If the English requirement on your offer is IELTS 7.0, or you are studying a course longer than 10 weeks, you are not eligible for an integrated CAS for both courses. Instead you will need to apply for another visa, using another CAS, which you will receive in September, approximately 10 days after your course finishes.

Please note SCLS accepts all SELTs (Secure English Language Tests) recognised by UKVI for Tier 4 visas. We also accept a wider range of English tests for Short-term Study Visas or students who do not require a visa. Please contact us for more details.

If you do not meet the requirements stated above, please enquire about our Intensive English courses.
