Network & control theory

For more information, see Dr Tai Yang's profile pages.

Dr Tai Yang obtained his PhD degree at the control system centre, UMIST in 1987. He joined the University of Sussex in 1990 and became a Reader in Computer and Control Engineering in 1999. He had ten-year industrial experience before his academic career. His current research interests are: Networks and control, Power system control and wind power generation, and Control theory and applications in general. Dr Yang has published many high quality papers. In 2010 alone, he published four papers in different IEEE Transactions and IET proceedings. His two single-authored papers, published in 2006 and 2008 respectively, are ranked as the 5th most downloaded papers in two different IET proceedings. The paper published in 2006 now has been sited 447 times (as on 5th of July, 2013)

Dr Yang's particular strength is multi-discipline applications. His current research on Embedded Energy Storage for high penetration of wind power has attracted wide attention. He has been invited to attend a Parliamentary Reception at the House of the Lords and has been selected as a member of "Energy mission" to Israel sponsored by the UK government and other organisations. The research on Embedded Energy Storage involves several technical areas: control, power system, electrical machines, power electronics and wind turbines.

Dr Yang's another main research on control and applications has also gained wide recognition. Since 2008, he has been invited to give special presentations in each UKACC International Conference on Control. In the most recent UKACC 2012 conference, he was one of 5 being invited to give a presentation on "Bridging the gap – control theory and control engineering practice" (among 5, 4 are experts in the industry).
