Biography
Director of CIE, Professor in International Education and Development. Director of Centre for International Education (CIE). Specialist in educational planning, economics and finance of education, teacher education, science and technology education policy in developing countries and educational aid and project evaluation. Extensive experience in South/South East Asia, China, and southern Africa. Research and development projects on educational planning and finance for governments in Africa and Asia and for a range of development agencies including DFID, the World Bank, UNICEF, UNDP, UNESCO, the Asian Development Bank and the GTZ. Director of the DFID supported Consortium for Research on Educational Access, Transitions and Equity (CREATE).
Graduate student at Manchester and the Institute of Development Studies. Founding Director of the International Master's programme at Sussex. 35 years experience in education and development in Sub-Saharan Africa and South, South East and East Asia. Co-convenor of roundtables on financing education at both the Jomtein and Dakar EFA Conferences. Past President of the British Association for International and Comparative Education and Hororary Professor at Beijing Normal and Hangzhou Universities, China.
