Biography

Mario Novelli is Professor of the Political Economy of Education and incoming Director of the Centre for International Education (CIE) at the University of Sussex.

He previously worked at the University of Amsterdam, and the University of Bristol, working across the disciplines of Education, International development, Geography and Politics. His work explores the relationship between Globalisation, Education and International Development. Within this field he is particularly interested in three major areas: Education and Conflict, Education & Labour Movements and the Global Governance of Education and Development.

He is currently working on issues related to the role of education in peacebuilding processes and has worked with UNICEF on a series of research projects since 2010. He is currently Co-director of a major Research Consortium on Education and Peacebuilding, partly funded by UNICEF.  The consortium is led by the Universities of Amsterdam, Sussex and Ulster and is carrying out a multi-country study on the role of education in peacebuilding.
