Department of Education

SKE Classics

This course is intended for graduates interested in teaching classical languages at secondary school level who need to develop their subject knowledge. It is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) and, therefore, free to participants. Funding is dependent on your having been offered a conditional place on an ITE course. You will also be eligible to receive a £200 a week bursary from the date of enrollment until October.

Course Leader: Rowlie Darby

This SKE course is undertaken in two parts:

From May to October, learning is undertaken largely independently through blended learning materials in Latin. During this time, you will have the chance to familiarise yourself with the content and delivery of Cambridge Latin Course.

Learning is enhanced by an interactive Latin conference held at the University of Sussex in July.

During your training year, you will have the opportunity to attend a week's residential course in Italy where ancient sites and languages are studied and applied.

For more details see SKE Classics 2020.
