Why study Economics at Sussex?

Excellent employment prospects

Sussex was ranked 4th in the UK for employability by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), with 96% of our employed alumni working in graduate-level jobs six months after graduation (DLHE 2015). Our Economics graduates go into a range of careers.

World leading academics

Our teaching faculty include world-renowned experts in development economics, international trade, poverty, environment and energy. You’ll learn first-hand from people who are directly influencing global economic policy.

Placement opportunities

You have the option to take a paid professional placement in the third year of your degree, giving you valuable experience in the workplace and boosting your confidence and raising your attractiveness to future employers.

Recent placement employers who have taken on our students include PwC, EY and Sainsbury’s Head Office.

Flexible, varied learning

We keep the focus on real issues and real people. Throughout your degree, you’ll apply the theory you learn to contemporary topics in economics.

We have a wide range of undergraduate courses, and you also have the opportunity to broaden your studies with electives and pathways.

Student life at Sussex is incredibly vibrant, and you have an almost endless number of ways to feed your interests outside of the classroom.

You can join a huge range of student societies relevant to economics, including the Economics Society, Investment Society, Politics, Philosophy and Economics Society, Sussex Investment, Idea Generation and Analysis Society (SIIGAS) and the Sussex Trading Society.

Our students and staff come from all over the world, and our graduates find jobs internationally, so our Business School has an international community.

You’ll be based in the Jubilee Building, a £29m, state-of-the-art academic building right in the heart of the Sussex campus and home to the University of Sussex Business School.

Our School's facilities include two ultra-modern lecture theatres (including the largest lecture theatre on campus), general and specialist teaching spaces, academic and support space, social and café facilities, IT suite, showers, and a number of informal study areas.

As well as being situated entirely within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Sussex campus is only 10 minutes away from the centre of Brighton, one the UK's most exciting cities.

We are also only an hour away from London by train, providing our students with an easy link to a huge range of potential employers and placement opportunities. The major international airports of Gatwick and Heathrow are also close by, allowing easy access to the rest of the world.
