Department of Economics

Annual careers party

FabuloUS 2012: The Economics Careers Party

The Department of Economics held its fifth annual careers speed-dating party in November 2012 and it was the biggest and best ever. 35 recent Economics graduates returned to campus to "speed-date" current Economics students, telling them about their experiences in the world of work and postgraduate study. This year we had graduates from a very wide range of careers, including the Government Economics Service, Economics consultancy and analysis, banking, finance and accountancy, marketing, retail management and teaching, several of whom had also completed PG study.

Over 150 UG and PGT students attended (our registration system broke down under the tsunami of arrivals), made light work of the 480 slices of pizza, 300 bottles of beer and 40 bottles of wine, and gave our graduates a thorough grilling for almost 3 hours. Feedback has been been very positive, with all students saying they found the event useful and enjoyable, that they were surprised at the range of careers our graduates follow, and that they would attend again.
