Biography
I have been at Sussex since 1981 and was Vice-Chancellor of the University from 1998 to 2007. My research has focused on international trade, including links between trade and capital accumulation, the role of foreign direct investment, and more recently the relationship between globalisation and inequality. My main policy interests relate to European integration: the economics of the European single market, the development of trade between the European Union and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and the eastern enlargement of the EU. More recently, I have developed an interest in the economics of higher education.
