Biography
Bhabani Shankar Nayak has completed his B.A (Hons), M.A in Political Science from Utkal University, India and M.Phil from the University of Hyderabad, India. He has completed his doctoral research (D.Phil) in Development Studies at the University of Sussex, UK, exploring the impact of the New Economic Reforms on tribal population in India with a reference to Orissa. His research work tries to understand the cultural transition of tribals in the process of globalization, privatization and liberalization policies adopted by the Government of India during 1990s. While doing so, he is trying to locate the relationship between Hindu right wing forces and global capitalism.
Role
Bhabani has completed his doctoral research and working as an Associate Tutor in Development Studies in the University's Centre for the Comparative Study of Culture, Development and the Environment (CDE), University of Sussex, UK.
Qualifications
B.A (Hons), M.A, M.Phil in Political Science & D.Phil in Development Studies.
Research
Politics and political economy of public policy, development, religion, culture, social capital, FDI and Violence, hegemony over and struggle of the indigenous people in India. The focus of my research is on social, cultural and economic transition of indigenous people in the process of globalization, liberalization and privatization process in South Asia with a special reference to its impact on Tribal (aboriginal or adivasi) people in India and Orissa in particular, Role of State in development, welfare delivery and governance, politics and philosophy of crisis and ideas. I take a special interest in the applicability of Marxist theory in relation to caste, tribe and gender debates in South Asian politics.Teaching
Bhabani is teaching 'Issues in Development', 'Colonialism and After', 'Understanding Global Cultures' and 'Race, Ethnicity and Nationalism'.
