CAIT intends to build up a review archive that will, over time, become a repository of high quality book reviews in the field of international theory broadly defined and provide an overview over the most important publications in this area of study. To this end we invite the submission of book reviews.
While all scholars in the field are, of course, invited to submit reviews, this is an excellent opportunity especially for PhD students
- to gain an overview over their field of study
- to develop their writing skills
- to assemble publications
- to receive books relevant to their research.
Reviews can either be written about books available at the CAIT office or on books suggested by the reviewer. CAIT offers to procure books for review from publishers where possible. If the review is accepted for publication, the review copy will remain in the possession of the reviewer.
Guidelines for reviewers
- Books reviewed should fall, broadly, into the field of international theory or be relevant to that field. Authors should consult with CAIT regarding the suitability of the proposed book review prior to writing.
- We also encourage reviews of significant non-English publications. In these cases, reviewers are asked to pay special attention to a clear exposition/summary of the argument and its relevance for IR Theory.
- Reviews must provide all relevant bibliographical information (including ISBN numbers, hard- or paperback editions, price, number of pages etc).
- Reviews should be approximately 800 words. If you wish to write a review or review article in an alternative format, please consult with CAIT.
- Reviews should contain a summary of the argument, indicate its contribution to the relevant field of research, and offer a substantive analysis of its strengths and weaknesses.
- Publication of reviews is conditional on approval by CAIT and reviewers may be asked to revise a review before publication.
