Mental Health Awareness Conference supported by the Sussex Fund
Sunday 14 October marks the start of our latest Sussex Fund telephone appeal, and 2018 will see our student callers contacting more alumni than ever before.
The appeal is a fantastic opportunity to hear what life at Sussex is like today, directly from our students. Moreover, alumni and friends of the University gave almost £300,000 to the Sussex Fund last year, much of which was raised through the telephone appeal. Proceeds were passed on to support a range of incredible student-led initiatives on campus, including a conference to raise awareness about mental health support; establishing a newly built room for students with disabilities; and supporting vital hardship grants and scholarships.
As Jo, one of our student callers from last year, said:
“Speaking with our alumni made me realise how important it is to keep in contact with them. They have so much to share with us. Most of them still feel a strong bond with our institution and want to be involved by participating in our projects.
I had the opportunity to speak to people with amazing life paths and inspiring careers that are happy to give advice and even provide their e-mails for further contact.”
Many of our student callers have benefited directly from the kindness of our alumni, and they will be taking this opportunity to update some of you about the beneficial work of the Sussex Fund and to thank you personally for this support.
Our students also love hearing about your experiences of Sussex, both past and present: reminiscing about walks on the Downs, nights in East Slope, or even how you met your best friend or partner! We will be calling during October and November so if you’re free then do pick up the phone and share in the Sussex spirit. We would love to hear from you.
