All-Staff Wellbeing Festival 2024

Wednesday 17 July 2024 9.30 to 4.00 pm

We are delighted to announce our inaugural All-Staff Wellbeing Festival at Sussex which will be a celebration designed to harmonise mental, physical, and financial wellbeing. This Festival is set to inspire you with a dynamic lineup of expert speakers, invigorating fitness activities, enriching learning opportunities, and so much more.

Join us on our picturesque campus to experience a vibrant gathering of minds and spirits from across the Sussex community. Immerse yourself in an atmosphere brimming with engagement and shared discovery. Whether you're looking to stretch your body, challenge your mind, or enrich your financial understanding, this Festival promises something transformative for everyone.

Keynote and Guest Speakers

Arrive at the Terrace Room, Bramber House for 9.30 am when Dr Robin Banerjee will kickstart your Festival with an enlightening presentation on kindness. Activities then commencing at 10.00 am.

You must complete a separate booking for each event you wish to attend:

  • At 10.00 am Paul Dolan, Professor of Behavioural Science at the LSE, and author of two bestselling books on happiness joins us in person to for his inspirational talk 'Happiness by Design' Book via LearnUpon now!
  • At 11.00 am Helen Rimmer from The Kind Brave Leader explains how emotional intelligence can boost wellbeing in professional settings. Booking coming soon! 
  • At 12.00 pm Lisa McDonald from Flower of Life Nutrition explains how different types of toxins impact us and how we can detox our bodies to improve our overall health and wellbeing. Book your place on LearnUpon now!

Online Guest Speakers:

  • At 11.00 am CoppaFeel, Breast Cancer Awareness. The Boobettes are online to debunk myths and explain why it's so important to check your breasts. Booking coming soon!

 Activities and Events:

  • Line Dancing for beginners. Booking coming soon!
  • Silent Disco - mental health awareness week theme is movement and what better way to move than dancing to your favourite 80s, 90s and noughties tracks? Booking coming soon!
  • Musical Mingle at the Meeting House from 12 pm to 2 pm. No need to book, just turn up to the Chapel!
  • Boundary Walk - guided walks have been scheduled for 10.30 am and 1.00 pm. No need to book. Just meet at the starting place.

Sussex Sport Activities:

  • Aerial Yoga from 9.45am to 10.45am. Move between yoga postures using a low-hanging wide aerial silk, hung like a hammock, to give flowing movements that relax and stretch the body. Limited places available. 
  • Aerial Circus from 11.00 am to 12.00 pm. For those looking to start out or make improvements. You will learn skills on the trapeze, rope and silk with a qualified aerial practitioner and in a supportive environment. Limited places available. 
  • Yoga from 12.00 pm to 12.45pm. Based on flowing sequences and precise alignment, linked to full rhythmic breathing that will open both body and mind. This class will improve your strength, stamina, and flexibility. 
  • Outdoor Fitness Class from 12.10pm to 12.50pm. This class uses our outdoor fitness area to combine strength and conditioning exercises/workout to provide a perfect high intensity workout in the sunshine (we hope). Come ready for the weather and bring lots of energy. 
  • Tai Chi QIGong from 1.05 to 1.45 pm. Tai Chi Qigong offers an ideal way to grasp the essence of Tai Chi through energy work, or Qi Gong, comprised of 18 postures designed to enhance the health and vitality of the body, mind, and spirit. Combining mindful movement with gentle, relaxed breathing, students become more aware of their entire bodies, recognising and releasing tension patterns to regulate energy and achieve optimal health.Join us to explore and experience the profound benefits of Tai Chi Qigong. 
  • Zumba from 1.05pm to 1.50pm. Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind class that will blow you away. Gemma brings buckets of energy and creates a supportive environment. 
  • Body Conditioning from 5.05pm to 5.50pm. This class is suitable for all fitness levels. You start the class with a warm up. The class uses dumbells to create a workout that challenges you and improves muscular strength. You will work on the lower body, the upper body and core. The method of training creates a high intensity and high energy class. 
  • Staff Mountain Biking from 5.30 to 7:30pm. This mountain bike ride is free to all starting from the Falmer Sports Complex. We have bikes and helmets available to use so just turn up making sure to wear suitable clothing. Please note: you must be able to ride a bike to attend! These sessions are aimed at exploring the natural surroundings of the university, all you need to do is bring your confirmation email and some sport clothes and we will do the rest. You will be provided with a bike and a helmet and guided by our Sussexsport mountain bike instructor Ben.

Drop-in Wellbeing Room:

The Wellbeing Room will be open from 11-4pm in Bramber House for you to drop by when convenient, we'll have the following: 

  • CoppaFeel
  • Student Experience team
  • Mobile Wellbeing Library
  • Staff networks and stalls including MHFA, menopause, Staff Disability Network, Period Dignity Project and Apprenticeships
  • Reiki
  • Occupational Health; and
  • You can also grab a free smoothie with special thanks to Sussex Uni Food (get there quick, while stocks last!)
