Celebrating 50 years of shaping innovation research and policy
SPRU is celebrating fifty years as a leading centre of research and teaching at the forefront of thinking on science, technology and innovation. This important milestone offers the opportunity to reflect on SPRU’s major contributions to the shaping of innovation policy and research since its inception in 1966, re-connect with alumni, colleagues and stakeholders and make new connections, developing partnerships and collaborations that align with an ambitious strategy for teaching, research and impact fit to respond to a world in transition.
2016 is a year of celebration, with a range of activities including several international engagements including in Africa, Latin America and China, a 3 day Conference in September at the University of Sussex, and an Anniversary Scholarship programme.

To celebrate its 50th Anniversary, SPRU hosted a major conference earlier this year (7-9 September 2016), based on the overarching theme of ‘Transforming Innovation’. Over three days, we brought together over 550 leading thinkers from business, academia and civil society to explore the future of innovation policy. The first day of the conference had a more policy- and practitioner-oriented focus, followed by two further days of academic conference. To find out more have a look at the Conference Programme.
