Susie is a Professor of Sociology, with research interests in micro-sociological theory (Symbolic Interactionism and Goffman's dramaturgy), self-identity, social interaction and everyday life.

Susie joined the department in 2004, after studying at the universities of Essex (BA 1999, MA 2000) and Cardiff (PhD 2003). At Cardiff , she conducted her ESRC-funded doctoral research on 'the sociology of shyness' and worked as a Research Associate and Teaching Assistant in the School of Social Sciences . At Sussex, she has been employed as an ESRC-funded Postdoctoral Research Fellow in 2004-5, Lecturer A from 2004-6, Lecturer B 2006-8, Senior Lecturer 2008-2012, Reader 2013-2017 and Professor 2017-present.


Susie Scott is a Professor of Sociology. She is also Undergraduate Convenor for the BA Sociology and Criminology degrees.
