campusThe School of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies is a large and lively community of students and academics representing a wide range of social science disciplines concerned with the analysis of key issues of contemporary culture and society - for example, issues of international development, inequality and identity, migration and human rights, European integration and citizenship, globalisation and international relations, regulation and risk and post-socialist societies. Understanding the profound global transformations in these fields is something that Sussex is uniquely positioned to contribute to, with its significant international collaborations across South and East Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America.

In particular, the University of Sussex and the School of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies has an international reputation for interdisciplinary teaching and research. The School brings together the core subjects of Anthropology, Economics, Geography, International Relations, Politics and Sociology and interdisciplinary centres such as the Sussex European Institute, the Centre for Culture, Development and Environment, the Centre for Gender Studies. Students can focus their studies on particular subjects, but they will find that these are enriched by the broad interdisciplinary contexts provided by the School. The School also offers a wide range of interdisciplinary programmes in Contemporary European Studies, Development Studies, Gender Studies and Cultural Studies, which can be studied at postgraduate level, or in combination with other subjects at undergraduate level.

The School of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies attracts students from all over the world and offers a diverse and cosmopolitan social and cultural experience in a similarly vibrant and youthful town.

The schools at Sussex have now been restructured.  Details and links to the new schools can be found here
