Overflowing Innovations in Physics

On 9 February 18 PhD and 3 MSc Physics students came together to learn hands-on, how to take forward innovations emerging from their research groups at Sussex.

The workshop, about developing a business canvas for those innovations, was designed and run by Colin Hayhurst, Innovations Partnership Fellow and Julia Shalet, external trainer Product Doctor.

Innovation and patent ideas worked on were: functional emulsions using graphene for wearable sensors; ultrafast laser diagnostics; lifetime microbatteries for pacemakers; software services and AI to aid learning for the blind and partially sighted; commercialisation of cold atom sources.

The workshop was overbooked; for those disappointed, or not able to go on 9 February, another workshop accessible for any GRADnet students is being run at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) on 15 March. Booking can be made here but places are running out.
