Department of Mathematics

Get involved: the MSSC

Student representatives meet with the Head of Department and the Senior Tutor two to three times a term at the Maths Student Staff Committee (MSSC). The MSSC is a forum where representatives can air your views on any aspect of teaching and learning in an unintimidating setting with the assurance that they will be taken seriously. Students from each year group are elected to represent their colleagues and to discuss matters ranging from the review of modules to the organisation of our annual Mathematics Ball. MSSC representatives also attend School and Department meetings, where important decisions are made.

Suggestions on ways to improve student life are always welcome. The MSSC has been responsible for several recent innovations including a student kitchen, a refurbished study area and a giant outdoor chess set.

Minutes of all MSSC meetings are posted online so that all students can keep track of what is going on within the Department.
