Mentoring African Research in Mathematics (University of Nairobi, Kenya)

  • The London Mathematical Society awarded Madzvamuse a two year Mentoring African Research in Mathematics in partnership with the University of Nairobi, Kenya from 2011-2012. 

The Masamu Programme (Sub-Saharan Africa)

  • Madzvamuse is one of the founding members of The Masamu Programme, a tri-collaborative effort between Auburn University, the Southen Africa Mathematical Sciences Association (SAMSA) and the University of Sussex. The programme consists of annual Advanced Study Institute in Mathematical Series. This series will consist of two advanced study institutes over a period of two years for UK, US and African advanced graduate students and early career/junior faculty (no more than five years at the level of lecturer/assistant professor), with the goal of building and strengthening the human infrastructure in the mathematical sciences higher education and research training in UK, US and Southern Africa. The first annual Masamu programme to take place in Livingstone, Zambia (December 1 - 14, 2011) is supported financially by the British Council through its UK-US New Partnership Fund as part of the Strategic Alliances and Partnerships strand of the Prime Minister’s Initiative for International Education 2 (PMI2) and the National Science Foundation.

My research lies in the areas of modelling and numerical analysis of spatial pattern formation on growing domains and evolving surfaces and curved boundaries and their wider applications to the Life Sciences. His research focuses on the interface between mathematics and its applications to biological and bio-medical problems. Broadly speaking my research falls into the following fields:

  • Applied Mathematics
  • Computational Biology
  • Mathematical Biology 
  • Cell Motility (in particular cell migration)
  • Bio-medical Fluid Dynamics (work in collaboration with surgeon Dr Abdullah Jibawi, Brigton and Sussex Medical Hospitals, Sussex).
  • Transport mechanisms for Dynein: From the cell membrane to the nucleus (work in collaboration wth biochemists: Dr. Majid Hafezparasat and Dr. Caroline Garrett, School of Life Sciences, University of Sussex). 
  • Modelling of neutrophils in vivo (work in collaboration with Dr. Constantino Carlos Reyes-Aldasoro, Biomedical Engineeing, School of Engineering and Design).
