Biochemistry at Sussex scored 89 per cent in the academic support category and 91 per cent in the teaching category of the 2011 National Student Survey (NSS), placing us 2nd and 9th, respectively.
Sussex was ranked 8th in the UK for biosciences in The Guardian University Guide 2012, 15th in the UK in The Complete University Guide 2011-12 and 16th in The Times Good University Guide 2012.
We were rated 8th in the UK for ‘Pre-clinical and Human Biological Sciences’ research in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). 85 per cent of our research was rated as recognised internationally or higher, and over half rated as internationally excellent or higher.
Our interests encompass fundamental biosciences and their application to medicine, biotechnology and environmental science. You start looking at the broad foundations of biological and biomedical science and specialise in Years 2 and 3. As the focus of your interests may change during your studies, we allow transfers between our degrees.
