Biochemistry at Sussex is a leading centre of research and is ranked in the top 10 for Biological Sciences in the UK for research quality (Research Excellence Framework 2014).

Our interests encompass fundamental biosciences and their application to medicine, biotechnology and environmental science and our recent discoveries have included identification of novel genes involved in maintaining genome stability and in preventing cancer and neurodegeneration. 

You start looking at the broad foundations of biological and biomedical science and specialise in Years 2 and 3. 

As the focus of your interests may change during your studies, you may be able to apply for transfers between our degrees.
