Chemistry: Biochemistry and Biomedical Science: Biology & Environmental Science

"The School of Life Sciences at Sussex University provides an exciting and attractive environment for learning and research, with a thriving international community of students and academics. It is a stimulating and enjoyable place in which to learn and work.
Protein structure known as the coiled coil. This is the most widely-used structure for directing protein-protein interactions in biology.
The School encompass a wide variety of related disciplines concerned with the emergent properties of living systems, social systems, ecosystems and the fundamental molecular and cellular processes that are essential to life. The School thus includes three departments: Biology & Environmental Science, Chemistry and Biochemistry which span the range of life sciences.

As well as core programmes in traditional subjects, new undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes are being developed at the important interfaces between chemistry, biology and environmental science, and between biological science and psychology. The School offers a number of scholarships for DPhils and Masters programmes.

The School is designed to foster interdisciplinary research. Cutting-edge research flourishes where traditional disciplines collide; an example, facilitated by the School of Life Sciences structure, is at the exciting chemistry/biochemistry interface. We also have strong links with other Schools at Sussex, such as the successful Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience and Robotics with the School of Science and Technology.
