Biography

I studied Political Science and read a Graduate Diploma in Armed Conflict Resolution at Los Andes University (Bogotá). Awarded the British Chevening Scholarship by the British Council to study a Ma in Contemporary War and Peace Studies at University of Sussex, successfully defended my DPhil thesis in International Relations at the University of Sussex in May 2011. Before coming to Sussex,  I lectured Politics at the University of Cauca (Popayán, Southern Colombia) during 2002 and International Relations at Externado University (Bogotá) from 2004 to 2005. At Sussex I was Associate Tutor in International Relations (2007-2010) and Lecturer in International Security (2010-2011), and since 2011 I am Associate Researcher in International Relations. During 2011 and 2012 I was Visiting Scholar at the Conflict Analysis Resource Centre (CERAC) and Seniour Consultant at Signum Consulting (Bogota). My work on the genocide of the Unión Patriótica in Colombia has been published in the Journal of Genocide Research and State Violence and Genocide in Latin America, a book edited by Henry Huttenback, Marcia Esparza and Daniel Fierestein (Routledge 2010).

Role

Associate Researcher in International Relations. I just returned from Colombia, where, working as visiting scholar at the Resource Centre for Conflict Analysis (CERAC) and senior consultant for Signum Consulting, I researched the link between geopolitics, conflict and affect. At the moment, I am a senior researcher at the Centre for Historical Memory of the Colombian Government. I'm co-cordinating a 27 month project on the destruction of the Union Patriotica in Colombia.
