Community & Business

I am Director of Vertical Slice,  the first UK company to focus specifically on video game usability.

I am also an Apple Distinguished Educator.

Research

Video Games

My research in the area of video games focuses on measuring and improving the usability and user experience of video games. By working with video games companies it is intended that the developed methodologies are both relevant and accurate.

Accessibility

I am interested in how blind and visually impaired people gain access to online digital information, in particular using multimodal approaches. Current research is in understanding the challenges of making 3D worlds accessible.

Current Grants

January 2010 - January 2011: Broadening participation in Computer Science by promoting Human-Computer Interaction in High Schools.  Funded by Google

External Activities

From November 2007 - October 2011, I am external examiner for the FdSc Enterprise in Computer Games Technology at Somerset College of Arts and Technology.

Teaching

In the Autumn Term of 2009 I will be teaching Human Computer Interaction.
