Early career researchers (ECRs) and post-docs
Global Studies Post doc and Early Career Research Network
Here in Global Studies we have an informal network open to all researchers (post docs, early career researchers, research fellows), often at the beginning of their academic careers, who come into the School for a relatively short time, perhaps for a few months or a year. The group offers social events and professional support sessions as well as a chance to connect with others in a similar position. It can feel quite isolating coming into the School for a short period of time and having like-minded colleagues to both signpost who to speak to as well as reach out to can make a huge difference.
Support sessions focussing on developing your academic career are varied and can be suggested by the group. Speakers come from both inside the School and the central Research Staff Office.
As well as meet ups, we have a group email which we use to share funding opportunities and relevant news from the University and Research Staff Office. There is also a WhatsApp group. Dan Watson currently coordinates the group and welcomes queries from those interested in joining.
