Global Studies Resource Centre

The Global Studies Resource Centre is situated in a bright, sunny room at the heart of the campus, close to the School geography resource centreoffice.  The Centre offers a variety of facilities, including:

  • Map Library
  • Study space
  • Geographical books, journals, departmental publications and other material not currently available in the main library
  • Help in finding and using geographical information including geographic data. See also Digimap
  • Lecture notes and course materials
  • Dedicated Geography PCs with computer-aided learning software, SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Scientists), Statistics for the Terrified, STEPS database, Internet access and specialist computer programs such as ArcView and Freehand
  • Scanning, photocopying and printing facilities
  • A friendly environment where geographers can meet and work
  • Final Year Theses in the Resource Centre

The major resource is the Map Library. Staff and students from throughout the University make use of maps from the collection in their work, and members of the public may visit by appointment.

The Map Library provides:

  • Over 80 000 maps, including a wide selection of current and historical maps of Sussex
  • Atlases, road maps and street plans from around the world
  • Books on cartography and maps
  • Aerial photographs
  • Information and help for choosing and finding the right map
